Eliza J. Colson Richards
Rockport — Eliza J. Colson Richards, 83, wife of Lloyd D. Richards, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport, following an extended illness.
Born in Rockland, April 25, 1930, she was the daughter of Ralph H. and Hattie Perry Colson. Educated in local schools, she was a graduate of Rockland High School.
On April 26, 1949, she married Lloyd D. Richards in Rockland. Eliza’s greatest commitment in life was to her husband. Throughout their 64 years of marriage, the couple were apart only twice.
For more than 40 years, Eliza worked at F. J. O’Hara & Sons in Rockland, as a cutter and packer.
Always a caregiver, Eliza was ready to help anyone in need at any time.
She attended Chestnut Street Baptist Church in Camden.
Other than her parents, Eliza was predeceased by her daughter, Linda Lee Richards Dodge in 1973. She is survived by her beloved husband, Lloyd of Glen Cove; her brother Ralph “Buddy” Colson and his wife Frances of St. George; good friend whom she considered as a son, Jeffrey Gallagher, his wife Suzanne and their daughter Jillian, all of Rockport; longtime friend and caregiver Shirley Hooper of Thomaston; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service at Glen Cove Cemetery will be announced in the spring of 2014 by Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, Rockland.
