‘Elephant Talk’ author in Hope
Hope — Hope Elephants and Sweet Tree Arts will welcome author Ann Downer to the Hope Elephants barn Saturday, Oct. 12, at 3 p.m.
Downer will talk about her book “Elephant Talk the Surprising Science of Elephant Communication” and about human-elephant conflict and efforts being made to reduce it around the world. The event is fee and open to the public, but donations are gratefully accepted for Hope Elephants.
Signed copies of Downer's books “Elephant Talk” and “Wild Animal Neighbors: Sharing Our Urban World” will be available for purchase. Downer was born in Virginia but spent part of her childhood in the Philippines and in Thailand, where she journeyed to Chiang Mai to see an elephant roundup for her 12th birthday. She is the author of five fantasy novels for young readers and four books about science. For many years, she worked as a science editor at a university press. More recently, she has been looking for ways to combine her love of science and story through blogs, podcasts and graphic novels. For more information, visit anndowner.wordpress.com.
The Hope Elephants barn is located on Route 235, near the center of the village.
