The Eighth annual Coast Guard Appreciation dinner is now history.    Coast Guard personnel with their spouses and children were appreciated by the community for their service.

Emcee, CWO4 Paul Dilger introduced the command leaders, so they could brag about their crews and their accomplishments.  Captain Brian Gilda of Sector New England was also introduced and he said wonderful things about Rockland and their support to the Coast Guard. Captain Gilda has attended four of the Annual Dinners and we are always honored to have him celebrate with us.

Speaker of the evening was Chief Bruce Boucher of the Rockland Police Department, who spoke of the Special Olympics and how the Coast Guard helps out with that, Chief Boucher presented Station CO Justin Uyttewaal with a plaque of appreciation.

Spouses were presented with a flower as recognition of their support, and newly arrived personnel were presented with “Welcome Bags” by the Committee which contain area information as well as items donated by local businesses.

The committee would especially like to thank the following people The Elk’s staff who once again put on a great meal.  Table sponsors, Camden National Bank, Machias Savings Bank, City of Rockland, Maine Lobster Festival, and an anonymous  donor.

Tables were set and looked very colorful, with our table gift sponsors, Lowes Home Improvement donated flowers; Bixby Chocolate Company donated chocolate bars for everyone in attendance; and Fiore Olive Oils donated gift sets of oil and vinegar.

Raffle item donors Allen Insurance and Financial, Ann Betts Dagget, Archers on the Pier, Dot Black, Eastern Tire, Elizabeth’s Cuts and Styles, F/V Endurance, Garden Island, Gilman Electrical, Hampton Inn, Home Depot, Hope Elephants, Limerock Inn (owner Frank helped passing out the many items) Lowe’s Home Improvement, Loyal Biscuit, Maine Lighthouse Museum, Pen Bay Chamber, Play Days, Samoset Resort, Skin Klinic, Susi Clark, Trackside, Waterworks Pub, Rock Harbor, and John Copland.
