Hope student studies in Italy
COLCHESTER, VT. –– Saint Michael's College student, Jessica Uges, daughter of Shirley Uges of Hope, is studying abroad for the fall 2012 semester. Uges, a junior psychology major, is studying at Richomd in Rome in Florence, Italy. Uges graduated from Camden Hills Regional High School before coming to Saint Michael's.
More than a third of Saint Michael's students take advantage of the opportunity to spend a semester, academic year or summer abroad. The college offers programs in five categories: language programs, university liberal studies courses, international service programs, internship programs and field study programs.
Luce graduates from basic training
Army National Guard Pvt. Kevin A. Luce has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, located in Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
Luce is the grandson of June Webber of Thomaston.
Adult education tutors needed
ROCKPORT — Tutors are needed to help adult students reach their goal. Those interested in helping these students are invited to a free Volunteer Tutor Training session on Friday, Oct. 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Teen Center in Camden.
Learn how to work one-on-one with adults to assist them with their basic educational goals, such as improving reading and writing skills, brushing up on math, and earning a GED.

Hoop dance available in Waldoboro
WALDOBORO — Hoop dance, or hula hooping, has become a gateway to fitness and creative movement. In this class, participants will explore movement, stress relief, toning and core fitness while having fun.
Hoops will be provided. Begins Monday, Oct. 1 from 5 to 6 p.m. for five weeks. This class is held at Medomak Middle School, Manktown Road, Waldoboro.
