Earthquake tremors felt in Midcoast
The U.S. Geological Survey reported a 4.6 magnitude earthquake at 7:12 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, with the epicenter 3 miles from Hollis in southern Maine.
Reports from South Thomaston and Washington indicated minor shaking in the Midcoast.
The Knox County Communications Center reported at 8 p.m. that the epicenter was in southern Maine around Waterboro. Emergency Manager Agency Director Ray Sisk could not be reached.
Jeffrey Northgraves, manager of the Knox County Airport in Owls Head, said an employee at the airport knew of the earthquake but felt no disturbance there. A member of Northgraves' household reported feeling tremors at 7:10 p.m. at their home near the airport, however.
