Early morning fire destroys tractor trailer
Warren — An early morning fire involving a tractor trailer truck parked at Beth's Farm Market on Western Road in Warren destroyed the vehicle Nov. 22.
Vincent Ahlholm, president of Ahlhom Inc, is the owner of the truck.
"The driver was out at 1 a.m. and at 3 o'clock, it's a ball of flames," he said.
The fire was noticed by Ahlholm's children as they returned home for Thanksgiving, he said.
Ahlholm said he is grateful no firefighters were injured fighting the blaze. At first, he was uncertain if the truck's cab, which sleeps two, was occupied. Once the flames were doused enough, firefighters determined the truck was not occupied at the time of the fire, Ahlholm said.
No fuel leaked or caught fire, Ahlholm said while standing next to the burned-out vehicle.
He and a small crew moved the truck Nov. 22 from where it burned to a location where they could siphon out the fuel.
Ahlholm said the truck was paid for and insured, though he wasn't sure of the depth of insurance coverage. He said he had just purchased another truck the day before so he would have back-up.
"She's been a good truck," he said.
Ahlholm praised the response of Warren Fire Department and said he was surprised to see about 15 firefighters at the scene. He said many of them probably expected a nice quiet holiday but instead ended up at the fire scene instead of sleeping in. Ahlholm expressed appreciation for the numbers and professionalism of the fire crew as well.
