Rockport — The names of the student-athletes may change slightly year to year and even the head coach may be different, but one thing is a constant for the Camden Hills wrestling team — namely, that the Windjammers will defeat most regular-season dual-meet opponents.

That again is the case in 2012-13 as the Windjammers are unbeaten in regular-season dual-meets, surging to a 13-0 record, including home victories over Nokomis of Newport and Erskine Academy of South China Wednesday night, Jan. 2 in close mat battles.

On Wednesday, Camden Hills defeated Erskine Academy 39-31 and tied Nokomis 40-40, despite competing without five starters and with the Windjammers forfeiting a bundle of weight classes.

Windjammer coach Pat Kelly said the Windjammers nipped Nokomis thanks to a "gutsy performance" by freshman Hilary Merrifield, who staved off a pin at 106 pounds.

Kelly said the dual-meet ended in a tie, however, Nokomis was given an unsportsmanlike penalty, which was enough to award Camden Hills the win. The coach said if Merrifield had been pinned in her match with the Warriors, that would have given Nokomis enough points to upend the Windjammers.

The individual Camden Hills results, with Windjammers listed first, were:

106 pounds — Merrifield lost by technical fall to Kollin Fraser, Nok; and lost by major decision to Isaac Taylor, EA.

113 pounds — James Archer won by forfeit over Nokomis; and pinned Justin Studholme, EA.
