Driver flees after early morning crash
Rockport — An early morning crash May 22 could lead to charges for a man from Montville.
According to Rockport Police Officer Jake Grinnell, a call came into Knox County Regional Communications Center approximately 4:35 a.m. reporting a car was involved in a crash and was off the road. The caller also stated they witnessed the driver exit the vehicle, get into another car and drive away from the scene of the crash.
Grinnell attempted to contact the caller but only reached voicemail.
“With the information we have now, it looks like he might have been on his way to work and lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway,” Grinnell said at the scene. “We have located the driver at his work[place] and Rockland Police Department has picked him up and will bring him to me for questioning.”
The late-model Chevrolet Malibu registered to Peter A. Fuller Jr. of Montville was traveling east on Route 17 near Mirror Lake when it left the road and traveled approximately 125 feet — in the air — coming to rest on its wheels in the ditch next to the westbound lane.
Rockport Fire Department along with North East Mobile Health Services responded to the crash and the westbound lane of Route 17 was closed for about 25 minutes while emergency crews cleared the scene of debris.
There were no injuries reported and charges are pending, based on the outcome of the investigation, police said.
