Owls Head — A 25-year-old Owls Head woman was arrested Saturday night after her car crashed into a house.

Haley Watkinson was charged with operating under the influence, according to a news release from the Knox County Sheriff's Office.

The crash occurred shortly before midnight on Saturday night, Nov. 5.

The car was driving south on Ingraham Drive (Route 73) when Watkinson told police she looked down to find her cell phone and the vehicle crossed the road and into a ditch. The vehicle then struck a fire hydrant before striking a house located at the corner of Knowlton Avenue.

Watkinson was taken to the Knox County Jail. She was not injured in the crash. She was wearing a seat belt. The car missed two large trees before striking the house, noted Chief Deputy Tim Carroll.

The vehicle was a total loss. Damage to the house, owned by Steven and Caitlin Taylor, was estimated at $30,000. The Taylors live in Massachusetts and the house was unoccupied.

The crash remains under investigation by Deputy David Johnson.

The Owls Head and Rockland fire departments responded to the crash.

Watkinson was released from jail Sunday.
