Dorothy 'Jeanne' Rhodes
West Palm Beach, Fla. — Dorothy "Jeanne" Rhodes, 83, died Nov. 25, 2012 at her home, following an extended period of declining health.
A longtime resident of West Palm Beach, Fla., she was born in Rockland on June 12, 1929, the daughter of Dr. Chester Lee “Chet” Bailey of Huron, S.D. and Vera Estelle Studley of Rockland. She attended school in Rockland and in Honolulu from 1938 until the Japanese attack of Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. Leaving Hawaii in 1942, she returned to Rockland, and in 1943, she and her mother moved to Mountain View, Calif.
She lived most of her of her adult life in West Palm Beach after leaving Rockland in 1964. A lifelong lover of animals, she became an active animal rights advocate.
She is survived by Janet Lynn Bailey of Arlington, Va.; Dr. Sue Bailey of Bethesda, Md.; Richard D. Warner and his wife Stacey M. of Rockland; David T. Lind and his wife Dede of Sacramento, Calif.; Shawn K. (Smith) Painter and her husband Jack of Cape Canaveral, Fla. and Mt. Vernon, Maine; and Dawn R. (Rhodes) Harrison and her husband Chris of Lake Clark Shores, Fla.; and grandchildren, John B. Warner of San Diego; Leslie A. Lind of Monterey, Calif.; Tessa M. Lind of Sacramento, Calif.; Dr. Thomas J. Painter of Orlando, Fla; David M. Painter of Miami; Katie Harrison, and Alee Harrison, both of Lake Clark Shores, Fla.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 8 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Del Largo Chapel, 131 Lakeside Drive, Lake Worth, FL 33460.
