SPRUCE HEAD — Doris T. Hopkins passed away peacefully in Lake Ridge, Va., on Friday, Aug. 31, 2012. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and partner in life, the Rev. Richard C. Hopkins, originally of Camden.
Mrs. Hopkins, the former Doris M. Trott, was born in 1918 in Augusta. She was a member of Penny Memorial Baptist Church, where she met and married Richard. In 1942 they moved together to Washington, D.C., and Arlington, Va., where they raised their family. In 1972 they moved back to their home state of Maine and enjoyed an active retirement that was centered around church work, family and travel.
In her last six years, Doris moved to an assisted living home nearer her family in Virginia. There she most enjoyed her chapel life and visits from her family.
Doris leaves her three children, Eugene L. Hopkins and his wife, Kathy, of Elmhurst, Pa., Priscilla Hopkins Torpey and her husband, Bill, of Fairfax Station, Va., and Stephen W. Hopkins and his wife, Sue, of Fairfax, Va. She is also greatly missed by her seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13 at the Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland. A celebration of Mrs. Hopkins' life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 14 at People's United Methodist Church, South Thomaston. The Rev. Ralph Miller will officiate. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Camden.
