Donald Wood Saunders
Waldoboro — Donald Wood Saunders, 76, died July 30, 2013, just a few hours before his 77th birthday at his home in Waldoboro.
He was born in Springfield, Mass on July 31, 1936, was adopted 18 months later by Edward and Alberta Saunders and was raised in Southwick, Mass. He moved to Vermont in 1956 and worked as a welder, eventually owning his own business. He moved to Maine in 1976 and worked as the plant supervisor for R & R Engineering and Steel-Pro in Rockland. He then owned his own business in Newport until illness forced his retirement in 1995. He moved back to his home in Waldoboro in 1998 and spent the next 15 years in his woodworking shop and his garden. He will be greatly missed for his humor, wisdom and everything else.
He was predeceased by his parents, his daughter Amy in March 1998 and his sister Gwen in January 2013.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Marion; daughter Janie Hisler and her husband Warren, of Waldoboro; sons Steven of Grafton, Vt., Michael of Fitzwilliam, N.H., Stacey Hutchison and his wife Melanie of Westport Island; grandchildren Nicole, Sheresea, Chace, Riley, Jarod, Rhiannon, Erik and great-grandson, Logan.
