Donald A. Simmons
Friendship — Donald Arthur Simmons, 83, passed away peacefully at his home in Friendship with all of his family by his bedside Dec. 10, 2013. He was born in Friendship on April 2, 1930 to Ralph A. Simmons and Ruth Lydia Harding.
Donald graduated from Thomaston High School in 1948, and joined the Army. He spent his four years in the Army stationed in Korea. He met Emma, they fell in love and were married June 14, 1954.
After retiring from the Army, Donald was a self-employed fisherman, and he caught lobster, tuna and shrimp to make his living. He named his boat after his loving wife, The F/V Emma E.
Donald was always very happy go lucky and friendly. He had a great sense of humor, enjoyed bowling and loved card games, especially solitaire which he played every morning. Donald was also an avid hunter, and loved to play his guitar and sing country music.
Donald was predeceased by his brothers, Alfred Simmons and Ralph Simmons. Donald will be missed by many, especially his family: Emma, his loving wife of 59 years; sons, Donald W. Simmons Sr. of Friendship, Keith A. Simmons and his wife Karen of Friendship; daughters Dianne Daggett and husband Mark of Cushing, Annette L. Simmons and companion David Sandblom of Friendship; sister Florence Cushman of Rockland; 17 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Dec. 20, at 1 p.m. at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. The Rev. Robert Dorr will officiate.
