‘Doctor Faustus’ on Strand screen
Rockland — Shakespeare’s Globe is bringing three of its theater productions to cinemas in the United States including the Strand Theatre, 345 Main St., this fall. Originally staged and filmed at Shakespeare’s Globe in 2011, the plays are shown in their entirety, a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the charm of London’s world famous Globe Theatre and its critically acclaimed performances.
The series will conclude with “Doctor Faustus” Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 1 and 7 p.m. A spectacular production of Christopher Marlowe’s tragedy directed by Matthew Dunster offers the legendary story of a man who sells his soul to the devil for power and pleasure. This bright and brilliant interpretation uses puppets, pyrotechnics and magic tricks. Arthur Darvill, best known as Doctor Who’s sidekick Rory in the cult British TV classic, plays Mephistopheles. Paul Hilton, whose big screen credits include “Wuthering Heights” and “Klimt with John Malkovich,” takes the title role.
Globe on Screen tickets are $15, $10 for students; contact the Strand for group ticket pricing. For more information on all upcoming live concerts, films, HD broadcasts and events at the Strand, visit rocklandstrand.com; call 594-0070, ext. 5; or send email to email@example.com.
