Diamondbacks strike late to beat Fillies for championshipWaldoboro title comes down to final inning
Waldoboro — There was plenty of high drama, excitement and runs Saturday afternoon, June 16 on John Foster Field as the Diamondbacks and Fillies battled for the Waldoboro Little League softball championship.
The winning run crossed the plate in the final inning as the Diamondbacks pulled out a 15-14 win.
With the Diamondbacks trailing 14-13, Josie Jameson rapped a two-run double to plate teammates Alyssa Blackler and Maddy White to allow the Diamondbacks to walk off with the win.
Leading the Diamondbacks at the plate were Blacker (single), White (single), Josie Jameson (single, game-winning double), Lydia Simmons (2 singles, double), Abby Nelson (4 singles), Mikayla Wallace (single) and Emily Harris (single).
For the Fillies, Olivia Jenkins (single), Sadie Cohen (3 singles), Gabby DePatsy (single), Cassidy Benner (2 singles) and Taylor Post (single) paced the offense.
White, Lydia Simmons and Addie Jameson pitched for the Diamondbacks and struck out a combined 10 batters, while Cohen, and DePatsy pitched for the Fillies and combined to strike out six batters.
The Diamondbacks scored six runs in the first inning, two in the fourth, three in the fifth and four in the sixth. The Fillies scored six runs in the first stanza, one apiece in the second and third, two in the fifth and four in the sixth.
Trailing 14-11 heading into the bottom of the final frame, Harris and Nelson crossed the plate before Blackler reached on a bunt single and White walked to set the table for Josie Jameson, who had the game-winning hit.
Members of the Diamondbacks include Emily Harris, Alyssa Blackler, Addie Jameson, Josie Jameson, Abigail Nelson, Lydia Simmons, Mikayla Wallace, Maddy White, Erika Simmons, Mackenzie Tolman, Hannah Prock and Ashley Winchenbach. The team is managed by Chris Jameson and coached by Audra Carlson and Carrie White.
Members of the Fillies include Chloe Bossow, Gabriyah Gadsby, Savannah Gilbert, Rosamond Hickey, Olivia Jenkins, Victoria Libby, Marina Lint, Taylor Post, Cassidy Benner, Sadie Cohen, Gabby DePatsy, Olivia Sevon, Cassi Smeltzer, Kirstin Whitney and Shelbe Wile. The team is managed by Jen Post and coached by Phil Cohen and Nick DePatsy.
