Descendant of Civil War veterans to speak in Lincolnville
Lincolnville — Larry Knight will tell about two of his ancestors' experiences during the Civil War Wednesday, June 25, at 7 p.m. at the Lincolnville Community Library.
Knight’s great-grand uncle Jonathan and great-grandfather Adelbert were born in Lincolnville to Abner Knight and Julia Ann Fletcher Knight, who had a farm on High Street. Both men joined the U.S. Army during the Civil War and were later captured and imprisoned.
Jonathan suffered in the terrible prison conditions and died of scurvy in a New York City hospital. Adelbert, who survived, kept a detailed diary and wrote letters to his mother telling of his experiences.
Knight will show photos and read from the diary and letters. He will also tell about his great-grandfather’s life after the war and share highlights of a recent trip to Georgia to visit two of the prisons Adelbert was in.
This program is sponsored by the Lincolnville Historical Society. The library is located at 208 Main St. in Lincolnville Center. For more information, call 763-4343 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
