DEP commissioner to address Rockland Kiwanis
Rockport — Maine Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Patricia Aho will speak to the Rockland Kiwanis Club Monday evening about her agency’s efforts to steward the state’s natural resources and ensure a strong, sustainable economy.
The meeting will start at 6 p.m. at the Samoset Resort; the commissioner’s remarks are scheduled to begin around 6:40 p.m. and go through 7:15 p.m.
Commissioner Aho will give an overview of the DEP’s role in providing protections for Maine’s air, land and water resources in the Midcoast and share its recent successes in improving permit processing time lines, expanding assistance offerings and advancing regulatory reform.
She’ll also take questions and hear from members as to how the state environmental department can better serve companies and communities.
The Kiwanis presentation will cap the commissioner’s afternoon tour of the community, which will include a tour by boat of the Rockland waterfront and related development and a visit to Maine Eastern Railroad’s round house, freight yard and passenger depot.
