Den Ouden joins Pen Bay Healthcare
ROCKPORT — Nicole den Ouden has joined Pen Bay Healthcare Foundation as director of development leadership. Den Ouden joins the foundation team as an accomplished business leader with more than 20 years of organizational and business development experience, complemented by professional certifications in the health care industry.
“Working in the private sector has afforded me the opportunity to experience an intense amount of professional development, and gain experience and skills that I am excited now to pay forward in our community,” she said.
Den Ouden received a Leadership Excellence Award in 2010 for her vision for and leadership in collaborating with major cancer centers across the country, the American Cancer Society, Susan G. Komen for the Cure and AstraZeneca Public Relations to broaden the reach of the Many Faces of Breast Cancer Outreach and Educational program.
“We made a great program better by bringing it to more women and caregivers across the country,” she said. “It meant a lot to me to connect patients with the advocacy community and support resources at their local cancer centers.”
In her new role, her goal is to help members of our community find great meaning in delivering the promise of improvements planned for Pen Bay. “Development is about connecting people and enriching lives,” she said. “The act of giving not only transforms the institution that receives the gift, but it also has the opportunity to transform the person and the family who gives it. I saw this phenomenon in the years I spent running Breast Cancer Outreach and Education Programs across the country. Often people found great healing power and courage by helping others.”
Originally from the small hill towns of western Massachusetts, den Ouden and husband, Rich Hamilton, found Midcoast Maine a perfect fit. Longtime residents of Tenants Harbor, both of their children were born at Pen Bay. She and her husband enjoy boating, skiing and teaching their kids to love and respect the miracles of the great outdoors.
