Degenhardt to speak

May 25, 2014

Rockland — Keep S’myelin’s June meeting will take place Thursday, June 6, at 11:30 a.m. at Kno-Wal-Lin Home Care and Hospice at 170 Pleasant St.

An awareness group for those with multiple sclerosis, their caregivers, and friends, Keep S’myelin is affiliated with the Greater New England Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

This will be the last meeting until September, and it promises to be a good one because Alexandra Degenhardt, MD, a neurologist from Pen Bay Medical Center, will be the guest speaker. A frequent visitor, Degenhardt always encourages a lively group discussion by asking members to come ready to ask their MS-related questions.

Degenhardt has a special interest in multiple sclerosis and completed her residency in neurology at Harvard University's Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Before joining the staff at Pen Bay Medical Center in 2011, she practiced in Brooklyn, N.Y., where she was an attending neurologist at New York Methodist Hospital and an assistant professor of clinical neurology at Weill Cornell Medical College. She is also certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Early and ongoing treatment with an FDA-approved therapy can make a difference for many people with multiple sclerosis. Learn about your options by talking to your health care professional and contacting the National MS Society at nationalMSsociety.org or call 1-800-FIGHT-MS (344-4867).
