David A. Lizotte
Norwell, Mass. — David Albert Lizotte, 76, of Norwell, Mass. and Spruce Head (Rackliff Island), died suddenly this past Monday, Oct. 8, 2012.
David was a family man and highly-accomplished professional graphic artist and designer. His design career spanned six decades from 1955 to 2002. He quickly rose through the corporate ranks to eventually becoming sole owner and chief executive officer of Gunn Design, Boston’s largest and most prestigious graphic design and corporate identity firm. Both David and his firm of associates won numerous Boston Art Directors Club Awards and national (Communication Arts) recognition for marketing excellence.
David’s list of corporate clients and corporate logos was a veritable who’s who of Corporate America: Aetna Insurance, Brown & Sharpe Tools, Dunkin Donuts, Gillette, New England Motor Freight, Pan Am Airlines, Polaroid, Teledyne Technologies, Zildjian Cymbals, Boston College, as well as corporate identity for numerous mid-size businesses in New England.
David was also a contributing senior advisor to several regional and national news publications devoted to the graphic arts.
After he sold Gunn Design, David began a second career in architectural design, producing plans for numerous renovation and new construction projects. His trademark barn designs were considered his forte.
David was a lifelong woodsman, harvesting and selling firewood from his properties for more than 40 years. Later in life, the firewood business became a labor of love. For many years David gave all the proceeds from selling firewood to the Norwell VNA and Food Pantry.
David mentored numerous business associates as well as young people over the course of his life, winning people over with his good nature and sound advice.
David’s beloved wife Mary Constance, to whom he was married for 53 years, predeceased him two weeks ago.
David is survived by his three sons, Ned, Matthew and Tim, his daughter-in-law Renee and six grandchildren Alexander, Kate, Garrison, Abigail, Diego and Miranda, his brother Roland and his wife Yvonne Lizotte, his sister Judy and husband David Baker, his brother in law Bill and sister in law Judy Bernardi, his aunt Pearl Unis and uncle Fred Lamburn.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 11a.m. at St. Thecla’s Catholic church located at 145 Washington St. in Pembroke Mass. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Tuesday, Oct. 16 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Mcnamara-Sparrel Funeral Home, 30 Central St., Norwell, Mass.
