Friendship — Dana R. Winslow, 66, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at a Massachusetts healthcare center, with his wife at his side, after an extended battle with cancer.

Born in Rockland, Feb. 8, 1947, Dana was the son of Raymond A. and Jean Winchenbach Winslow. While growing up in Thomaston, he attended local schools and was a 1965 graduate of Thomaston High School.

On Nov. 29, 1966, he enlisted in the United States Army. During his enlistment, Dana served primarily in Germany. While home on leave, he married Brenda E. Wotton in Friendship, Dec. 16, 1967. The newlyweds returned to Germany, where they resided until the end of Dana’s military deployment in 1969.

Shortly after returning home from his military duty, Dana began employment with Shepard’s Motors in Thomaston, where he worked as parts manager until his retirement just a few weeks ago.

Dana enjoyed lobstering and he was thrilled to have his grandchildren take turns as his sternman.

More than anything, Dana was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was always there for his family, be it helping to repair a car, work on a house or building project or taking kids to practice and picking them up as well.

He enjoyed antiquing and going to yard sales, and with his wife, owned and operated Winslow’s Antiques in Warren.

He attended the Advent Christian Church in Friendship.

Dana is survived by his wife, Brenda; two daughters and their husbands, Laurie A. and Randy "Bubba" Lee, Amy R. and Kurt McCollett, all of Friendship; his mother Jean Winslow; his sister Paula Sawyer, both of Rockport, and Paula’s companion Joe McKinney of Brighton, Mass.; his seven grandchildren, Jacob, Rachel and Joshua Lee, Riley, Eli, Isaac and Ivy McCollett; his brother-in-law, Mark Wotton of Friendship; as well as nieces and nephews, Jason Winslow of Rockport, Jason Wotton, Ramona Simmons both of Friendship, and Marianne Wotton of Waldoboro.

A celebration of Dana’s life will be held Friday, March 1, at 2 p.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland. Pastor Alan Chamberlan will officiate. Spring interment will be in Village Cemetery, Friendship.

Always such a gentleman and good guy.  Sympathy to your family, Dana.  They are surely going to have a big hole in their hearts and in their lives with the loss of your presence and guidance.  Rest in Peace.
