Cruisin' to Graduation set for Medomak

Photo by: Dwight Collins A large number of people are expected to attend the 13th annual Cruisin' to Graduation at  Medomak Valley High School Sunday, May 4. The event sponsors Project Graduation and gives attendees the chance to admire antique and custom cars, trucks and motorcycles.

Waldoboro — Medomak Valley High School’s Project Graduation will hold its 13th annual "Cruisin’ to Graduation" car show rain or shine Sunday, May 4.

More than 500 entrants are expected to compete for trophies that will be awarded per class as well as a Best of Show and People’s Choice trophy. There are also specialty classes, including: Best Paint - Auto, Best Paint - Motorcycle, Club Trophy for most members - Auto and Motorcycle, Best Engine Detail, Best Auto Interior, Most Unique Vehicle, and Public Service Choice awards.

The proceeds from the car show not only benefit the graduating class and its graduation night activities, but will also provide seed money for the freshman, sophomore and junior classes’ future celebrations.

Profits also fund a $500 scholarship for a graduating senior pursuing an education in the automotive field. The majority of trophies presented are sponsored by local businesses. The first 300 exhibitors will receive a gift bag containing promotional items from local businesses as well as a commemorative dashboard plaque.

General admission is $5 for adults, $3 per student, and children 5 and under are free. A suggested donation for exhibitors is $5 per vehicle which includes the driver and one passenger.

The registration gate opens at 8 a.m. for exhibitors and 10 a.m. for spectators. The day wraps up with the awards ceremony beginning at 2:30 p.m. There is on-site parking, as well as a parking shuttle available at Ripley's Transport, located at 2966 Atlantic Highway, Waldoboro. Shuttle parking is highly encouraged after 11 a.m.

Project Graduation is offered to all Medomak Valley High School graduates as a way to keep them safe on graduation night, in a chemical-free atmosphere. The Class of 2014 will spend the night celebrating at the Penobscot Bay YMCA. Activities there will entertain the graduates throughout the night and into the morning.
