Courageous 'Babe' on screen
Thomaston — Friends of the Thomaston Public Library presents its Friday Night Film Series with screenings Fridays at 7 p.m. in the community room, right down the hall from the original location (Room 208), of Thomaston Public Library in the Thomaston Academy Building, 60 Main St./Route 1.
Continuing this month's Courage Within theme, the July 20 film is "Babe," an 106-minute film from 1975. Babe Didrickson won two gold medals in track and field at the 1932 Olympics and returned to become a world champion golfer, as she battled to be accepted in a man’s world of sports. Her fight against cancer was the one battle she was ultimately to lose. Susan Clark won an Emmy for her portrayal of Babe.
Friday Night Films are open to the public and free of charge, but donations are gratefully accepted. The Thomaston Academy Building is handicapped accessible from the rear entrance and light refreshments will be served. For more information, call the library at 354-2453.
