Cost of lobster roll in Cushing: $25,000
Cushing — A rented Budget truck, occupied by two men traveling to New York, rolled over after taking a turn onto River Road from Pleasant Point Road in Cushing on Wednesday night, Aug. 22.
The truck was transporting lobsters, clams and crabs valued at about $25,000, said Sam Olson, a wharf owner in Cushing who had sold $10,000 worth of lobsters to the men.
Out of the 5,400 pounds of lobster in the truck, 5,200 pounds were processed at Sea Hag Seafoods Inc. in St. George the following day.
Tim Jones, owner of Wiley Cove Seafood, was hired by the New York men to help clean up the accident and find an outlet for the product. Some of the lobster shells were cracked and in no condition to sell in the open market. "It worked out pretty well," Jones said. "It was quite a night."
