Cornerspring students explore the country of Turkey
By Cornerspring Montessori School | Apr 15, 2013
Each year, students at Cornerspring Montessori School learn about and explore a different country as part of their cultural curriculum. They are introduced to the life and various traditions of that country during their 10 week study. This year's country of study was Turkey. The flag and map are drawn and colored as introductory activities. Then the history, geography, government, language, arts and music, architecture and landmarks are researched and explored. Books and folktales are read and songs are sung. This year's study culminated in a day long "Children's Celebration" a traditional holiday at this time of year in Turkey. The children paraded around the school grounds wearing traditional bell bracelets and then were treated to a great buffet of traditional Turkish foods, prepared by the parents and staff. Two of the classes performed skits based on folktales they had read. An amazing study of a new country came to an end in a way they will always remember!
