Contra dance at High Mountain Hall
Camden — The Steampacket will play the next 5th Friday Contradance May 30 at High Mountain Hall, 5 Mountain St./Route 52. Dugan Murphy will call the dance, which will run from 7 to 10:30 p.m. A portion of the evening’s proceeds will go to Peopleplace Cooperative School of Rockport.
The Steampacket is a trio that plays for dances, weddings and other events around the Midcoast. With soaring fiddle, bright mandolin, and creative drop-D guitar playing, The Steampacket puts out a rich, powerful sound that lifts the dancers and pleases listeners of all sorts. The band features Tamora Goltz on fiddle; David Stimson on guitar, piano, banjo and concertina; and Glen Loper on mandolin, banjo and percussion.
The evening will open with a lesson for beginners, so those who have never tried contra dancing are encouraged to come out for the chem-free event. Tickets, available at the door, will be $12; $10 for those age 13 to 17; and free for younger kids.
