Rockland — Snow Marine Park is already a popular place for city residents and visitors to launch their boats, enjoy a picnic, or play soccer or baseball.

A community meeting Tuesday, June 17, from 4 to 6 p.m. in Snow Marine's parking area will discuss future needs of the park that will make it even more inviting, said city Community Development Director John Holden. Members of the Rockland Harbor Commission, Parks Commission, and the Ad Hoc Harbor Trail Committee are all invited to attend, as is the public at large.

The city has received a $6,000 state Shore and Harbor planning grant that will be used to complete design and engineering plans for a newer, better Snow Marine Park boat ramp, he said. The grant is also devised to gather community input on future uses for the park that will involve additional features.

Some ideas could involve additional park benches, tables, an extension of the Harbor Park Trail through the park to the Owls Head city line, or any number of community requests, Holden said.

Baker Design Consulting and MRLD Landscape Architecture and Urbanism will facilitate the dialogue and discussion. Following the session, which will conclude inside the Sail Power & Steam Museum, Baker Design will prepare a memo and conceptual-level sketches of future design options.
