Community contra at Appleton school

Dec 02, 2013
Julia Plumb and Baron Collins-Hill perform together as Velocipede.

Appleton — Velocipede will play for a community contra dance Friday, Dec. 13, beginning 7 p.m. at Appleton Village School, 737 Union Road/Route 131. A silent auction will run from 6 to 8 p.m.; all of the evening’s proceeds will go towards providing field trips and enrichment opportunities for school’s students.

Hailing from the great state of Maine, Julia Plumb (fiddle, viola, foot percussion) and Baron Collins-Hill (tenor guitar, mandolin) play fiddle tunes from around the world. The musicians met in 2008 at Maine Fiddle Camp in Montville. Belfast’s Chrissy Fowler will be the caller, and she knows how to get beginners and experts out on the dance floor.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students. There will be concessions for sale (cash or checks only). For more information or to donate auction items, contact Cheryl Morin at
