October book sale
THOMASTON —The Thomaston Public Library will be holding a book sale for the entire month of October and all orange books will be on sale for two books for the price of one. A large display has been set up in the hallway book store. The Thomaston Public Library is located at 60 Main St. Parking is in the back.
Former Attorney General to honor AIO volunteers
ROCKLAND — On Saturday, Oct. 20, following its annual meeting, the board of directors of Area Interfaith Outreach in Rockland will prepare and serve a dinner for the many volunteers who have served the clientele of the food pantry in 2012. The annual meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. Seating for dinner will begin at 6 p.m. and after dinner, the program will recognize the essential work of the AIO volunteers and feature Steve Rowe, a former Maine attorney general and state legislator.
Rowe will share insights gained from his long career of working to bring about far-reaching social change on behalf of vulnerable populations.
The public is welcome to both the annual meeting and the dinner, though space is limited and reservations are necessary. Please call Sherry Cobb at 785-2086 or email firstname.lastname@example.org, by Monday, Oct. 15 to secure a place.
The event will be held at Nativity Lutheran Church, 174 Old County Road, in Rockport.
Fall clean-up, spring bulb planting
WASHINGTON — On Saturday, Oct. 20 at 10 a.m., there will be a fall clean-up and spring bulb planting event at Gibbs Library in the Ray Kelley Memorial Garden. Volunteers are asked to bring up to five bulbs to plant in memory of a loved one. For more information, call 845-2663.

Benefit supper for MidCoast Christian Academy
THOMASTON — There will be a benefit supper on Friday, Oct. 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Thomaston American Legion Hall to benefit Midcoast Christian Academy. The supper will include Doug Anderson's seafood chowder. Entrance is by donation and Thomaston veterans are free.
Maine Tri-County Button Show
BELFAST –– The Maine Tri-County Button Show and Sale will be held Saturday, Oct. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the fellowship hall of the Belfast United Methodist Church, 23 Mill Lane, Belfast. Admission is free.
The event will feature raffles, coffee, snacks and many, many buttons. This year's feature display is entitled "Beginning with Buttons: How to collect, organize and mount your collection." A booklet of compiled helpful hints to assist the new collector getting started in the hobby will be given to the first eight people to join the Maine Tri-County Button Club. The club meets the last Wednesday of the month, March-September.

Christmas Fair at St. Bernard's
ROCKLAND –– A Christmas Fair will be held on Saturday, Nov. 3 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Bernard's Church on Broadway. There will be tables of white elephant items, arts and crafts, jewelry, books, clothing, Christmas decorations, toys and baked goods. Sweets will be offered in the Tea Room and sandwiches at lunch.
