Tax instruction booklet delivery delayed

WALDOBORO — Now that it is the tax season, the public should know that the tax instruction booklets will not be available from any of the public libraries until mid- to late February.

All area libraries have received notices from the IRS stating this. Due to the 16-day federal government shutdown, the IRS has announced it will delay the start of tax return processing until sometime between Jan. 28 and Feb. 4. Last year, the tax season started Jan. 21. The Internal Revenue Service is delaying the start of the tax-filing season because of last year's government shutdown that furloughed workers who were programming and testing tax-processing systems. However, the instruction booklets and tax forms are now available online at irs.gov.
