Obamacare info session
APPLETON — Allen Insurance and Financial will offer an information session to help educate area residents about the Affordable Care Act (the federal legislation many call Obamacare) at the Appleton library Thursday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m.
Anyone with questions about health insurance is welcome to attend. The presenter is Dan Wyman of Appleton, manager of the insured benefits division at Allen Insurance and Financial. The Affordable Care Act requires almost all Americans to have health insurance as of Jan. 1, 2014 or pay a penalty. ROCKLAND — Cornerstone Ministries annual Christmas Bazaar will be held Saturday, Nov. 9, beginning at 8 a.m. at 37 Water St. in Rockland. Many Christmas decorations, general merchandise, furniture, glassware, dishes shoes and clothes. Homemade pies, baked goods, snacks and hot beverages.
Emblem Club Holiday Craft Fair
ROCKLAND — Rockland Emblem Club Annual Holiday Craft Fair is Saturday, Nov. 9, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Rockland Elks Lodge on Rankin Street. One of the main attractions will be a straw raffle. For a $1 donation per straw, shoppers will have a chance to win a variety of prizes donated from Emblem Club members and local businesses. Proceeds benefit many local charities.
There will be a bake table with a variety of homemade baked goods, cookies, pies and fudges. More than 40 tables have been reserved to sell various crafts. The kitchen will be open serving foods and drinks, including seafood chowder. For more information, visit, rocklandemblemclub.org.
Pie tasting at Village Bakery
WALDOBORO — The Village Bakery and Cafe in Waldoboro Village is hosting a pie tasting Saturday, Nov. 9, from 2 to 5 p.m. Get warmed up for the holiday season with a tasting of the Village Bakery’s pies and fruit crisps. 4th annual Pet Food and Supplies Drive
ROCKLAND — Each holiday season the Knox Community Center, 61 Park St., holds a Pet Food and Supplies Drive to provide a little something extra for those furry loved ones that enhance the lives of community members participating in the USDA commodities program. Please consider dropping off an item or two to help out.
Pet care packages will be distributed the week of Dec. 16 to pet owners in need.
All excess supplies will be donated to the Pope Memorial Humane Society.
The most needed items include: cat and/or dog food, wet and dry; litter and litter box supplies; cloth and paper towels. For more information, contact Amanda at 596-0339.
World Kindness Day at the Rockland library
ROCKLAND — Wednesday, Nov. 13 is World Kindness Day. Come to the Rockland Public Library to observe the day. Join in the food drive. Children and adults are asked to bring in non-perishable foods for the Area Interfaith Outreach Food Pantry in Rockland and to help out neighbors in need. Pasta sauces, soups, canned corn, and ravioli and other canned pasta are especially needed. The food drive will last through the end of December. Also come in and pick up some Random Acts of Kindness cards and information about local volunteer opportunities.
Children are invited to a 10:30 a.m. special storytime. Librarian Jean Young will read the classic "Stone Soup." Children are encouraged to bring in their favorite vegetable for soup making. Then they may choose from the kindness basket, a kind activity to perform for another person. Additionally on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. there will be another special storytime and Kindness Poster Project. For more information, call Rockland library at 594-0310.
ROCKLAND — Project Snow Buddies is collecting coats, hats, mittens. All proceeds go directly to Head Start families. Donations are needed by Saturday, Nov. 23. Donations can be dropped off in the drop box located at the University of Maine Augusta Rockland site.

Grange Fair and Public Baked Bean Supper
BURKETTVILLE — Medomac Valley Grange is holding a fair and baked bean supper on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Grange Hall, located on Burkettville Road (Route 105) in Appleton. Fair includes a silent auction, food and candy sale, crafts and cake walk. Supper begins at 4 p.m. and includes baked beans, casseroles, salads, biscuits, brown bread, pies, coffee, tea and punch. The cost is $8 adults, $3 children, children under 5 years old are free.
5th Annual Law Enforcement Donut Eating Contest
ROCKLAND — Approximately 10 law enforcement, Coast Guard, fire department and EMS personnel will compete in a contest to eat six doughnuts the fastest on Friday, Nov. 15, at 10 a.m. at Tim Horton's in Rockland. Participants include two-time champion Peter Plummer of the USCG Station Rockland, and prior champion Justin Hills from Northeast Ambulance Service.
The public is encouraged to come cheer on the competitors and make a donation to Special Olympics Maine. There will be a raffle, paper torches for $1, or T-shirts for $15. All money raised goes directly to Special Olympics Maine.
Holiday Antique and Gift Show
LINCOLNVILLE — On Saturday, Nov. 16, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. there is a Holiday Antique and Gift Show at the Lincolnville Center Community, 18 Searsmont Road, Lincolnville.
Show will feature local crafts including vintage collage paperweights and Spirit Boxes" ash baskets, bird ornaments, ragrugs, brooms, goat milk soap, maple syrup, jams and chutneys, baked goods, hostess gifts, and stocking stuffers as well as several antique dealers. This event is sponsored by the United Christian Church (UCC) and will benefit the Community Building Maintenance Fund and the Church's General Fund.
