Community boating program seeks participants
Lincolnville — Children ages 8- 14 have an opportunity this summer to sail on the warm waters of Norton Pond, with instructional U.S. Sailing programming offered through the Lincolnville Boat Club.
The Club is providing a broad array of different youth programs this summer, tailored to both novices and more advanced students. And in addition to sailboats, the Club has a number of rowboats and kayaks, and is located at a nice swimming area — so children have many ways to enjoy themselves.
Children can participate for a single week or several weeks. Some classes are for beginners, other classes for intermediates, and still others for advanced students. When conditions permit, the advanced classes might take place on the ocean, not at Norton Pond.
“This is a great opportunity for local kids,” explained Anna Piotti, who is running the summer program. “This year we’ve added boats and extended the hours so parents can drop kids off earlier if more convenient — plus we have enough instructors so that all the kids will get personal attention."
Details can be found on the Club’s website at lincolnboatclub.com. Weekly rates are $110 for half days and $215 for full days. A number of scholarships are available.
