College readiness program to launch this fall
Rockland — The Knox County College Transitions Program has designed a new full-day College Next program for adults who plan to enter college and who need a boost to get started. College Next is an "everything included" full-day college preparation course.
Programming is specifically designed for adults who have earned a high school diploma or equivalent and have an interest in going to college. The experience will include: a lively classroom environment and an opportunity to make new friends; supportive and knowledgeable instructors who want every participant to succeed; and, a program that builds a “can-do” feeling in each student.
Specific coursework is designed to raise mathematical and language arts skills to college level. Instruction in the use of computer technology needed in today’s classrooms will be provided. The full-day program will include skill building in test taking, note taking, and study strategies as well as individualized career planning to connect the college experience to future job prospects. Assistance with college research, applications and financial aid will also be provided.
According to the program's director, Peg Junge, "This new full-day program is an all-inclusive approach to help adults develop the skills they will need to be successful in the college classroom. We have excellent teaching staff and a great new format. It's exciting."
The program will meet on Wednesdays, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., beginning Sept. 10, at University College at Rockland. Inquiries may be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone to 691-5751. Registration is currently open. More information is also available at sites.google.com/site/collegenextprogram/.
