Coast Guard Station Rockland CO & XO visit Kiwanis
The Kiwanis Club of Rockland continued its strong weekly speaker series with the commanding officer, [CO], and executive officer, [XO], of Coast Guard Station Rockland. At the August 19th meeting, Chief Warrant Officer Justin Uyttewaal discussed his responsibilities as the CO, and why the role of the Coast Guard is important to the ongoing security of U.S. waterways. Following Uyttewaal's presentation, Chief Petty Officer Ed Martin, talked about his role as XO, explaining his relationship with the CO and crew operations. The Coast Guard falls under the direction of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and is an important branch of the U.S. military. Both Uyttewaal, with 15 years of service, and Martin, with 20 years of service, reside in Thomaston with their families and are actively involved in the community when not performing their Coast Guard duties.
