Clean Bee Laundry raffle raises funds for PAWS capital campaign

Nov 10, 2012

Camden — Clean Bee Laundry in Camden is doing a monthly drawing to raise funds for the new PAWS building and dog park, which will cost about $1 million.

The capital campaign, now in progress, raises the necessary money to renovate the existing building to house cats, build a connecting building for administrative offices and a new dog wing. It will improve care of animals through better design and adequate space. The changes will also increase air quality and medical care the shelter can provide.

To enter the drawing, Clean Bee Laundry customers are invited to make a cash donation (minimum $1) when they put any Clean Bee receipt ticket into the bucket they have on the counter. The receipt ticket can be from any purchase at Clean Bee such as wash, dry, fold order or the purchase of a re-usable laundry bag. A winner will be drawn at the first of each month to receive what they had purchased in goods or services for free the next time.

Clean Bee Laundry owner Jennifer Temple said, "Clean Bee Laundry offers its employees paid time for volunteer work. The staff (aka Worker Bees) expressed interest in helping PAWS but the timing didn't work out. Employee Sue Goff still wanted to help so she proposed that the Bee do a drawing in support of PAWS. She outlined the drawing and rolled it out to customers at the beginning of October. Over the next few months, we hope to raise several hundred dollars for PAWS this way."

Owners Broo and Jennifer Temple have always gotten their dogs from animal shelters. Their current dog is Honey, cleanbeelaundry.com/honey, so named for her color and the amount of time she spends at Clean Bee Laundry. When the Temples were struggling with Honey's separation anxiety, the staff and volunteers at PAWS were a help. As a result, Honey's behavior has improved and she is still part of the family. Stop in and see her at the Bee.
