Classic romantic comedy Friday night
Thomaston — Friends of the Thomaston Public Library presents its Friday Night Film Series with screenings weekly at 6:30 p.m. in the community room of Thomaston Public Library in the Thomaston Academy Building, 60 Main St./Route 1. February’s theme is The Affair of Love.
On Feb. 21, the series will screen classic screwball romance “It Happened One Night,” a 1934 unrated film than runs 105 minutes. Runaway socialite Ellie Andrews (Claudette Colbert) is en route to the Big Apple to elope with a fortune-hunting flyboy. Along the way, she meets a crusty newspaperman (Clark Gable) who has just been sacked and — unbeknownst to Ellie — plans to sell her story to get his job back. But a string of zany misadventures leads them to realize they are madly, if reluctantly, in love. “It Happened One Night” swept every major Academy Award.
This month’s series will conclude Feb. 28 with “40 Carats” (1973, USA). Friday Night Films are open to the public and free of charge, but donations are gratefully accepted. Light refreshments will be served.
The Thomaston Academy building is handicapped accessible from the rear entrance. For more information, call the library at 354-2453.
