Chuck serves as reminder to bring pets inside

Chuck, a stray recently brought to the shelter, lost his ears due to frostbite.

Our pet pick of the week is Chuck. He was a stray cat brought in a few days ago with severe frost bite. Poor little thing lost the tops of his ears and has a very sore nose. We are grateful for siblings Josie and Owen and their parents for saving little Chuck and bringing him to the PMHSKC. He's warm and comfortable now and getting the care he needs. Chuck is a good example of why it is SO important to bring your pets in from the cold.

We'd like to give a big shout out to 9-year-old Taylor Warrington who celebrated her birthday by collecting much needed supplies, a $50 gift certificate and $50 for the shelter instead of accepting birthday gifts. We love our junior philanthropists. It's generosity like Taylor's that allow us to be able to do what we do for the animals. Thank you Taylor.

We are thrilled to announce that Valentine, our resident 300-pound pig, has been adopted. Valentine will live her happily ever after at Peace Ridge Sanctuary where she has been welcomed and will find plenty of love and companionship among her caretakers and other farm animals.

Thank you to the Loyal Biscuit Co. in Rockland for holding a nail clipping clinic to benefit the shelter. Thirty dogs now have perfectly manicured paws thanks to LBC and Meredith of PenBay Veterinary Associates. PMHSKC received $300 to help us with the animals in our care.

In one week, Thursday, Feb. 6 at the Strand Theatre, come hear the amazing and humorous tale of mystery author and dog rescuer David Rosenfelt as he recounts his road trip adventures of traveling from California to Maine with his 25 rescue dogs in 3 RV’s, which he documents in his new book "Dogtripping." WCSH Channel 6′s Don Carrigan will emcee the event. General admission tickets are only $10 and doors open at 6:45 p.m. Better yet, treat yourself to VIP tickets and meet the author at a special appetizer reception where you will receive your very own hardcover copy of "Dogtripping;" have it personally signed by Rosenfelt and enjoy reserved seating — all for only $40. Visit, call or go online to the Strand Theatre box office. Proceeds of the event will go to the new building fund. Learn more at hskcme.org.
