Choristers sing music from movies

Apr 07, 2014

Waldoboro — The Medomak Valley High School Chorus will present a solo and small ensemble concert Tuesday, April 15, at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria of the school on Manktown Road. The concert will have cafe-style seating, and refreshments will be for sale.

The students have chosen a movie theme this year, doing research into some favorite films to find their songs.

"Let's just say I had some different ideas about 'movie music,’" said Susan Jones, director of the chorus. "I had to remember that Disney movies have music, musicals are now movies, and 'movie theme songs' sometimes don't even appear in the movie."

Some of the songs that will be heard during the concert are "May It Be" from "Lord of the Rings," "Let It Go" from "Frozen," "A Little Priest" from "Sweeney Todd," "Cups" from "Pitch Perfect" and "Stay Alive" from "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty." The entire chorus also will perform a couple numbers, and the girls will be getting together for a version of "The Rose" from the movie of the same name.

Money raised will provide the last bit needed for a trip to Maine State Music Theater June 13 to see "The Buddy Holly Story."
