Cheever to lead Down East Singers board
Rockport — Daniel S. Cheever Jr. of Camden has been named president of Down East Singers by the organization’s board of directors.
Cheever was president of Simmons College in Boston from 1995 to 2006 and president of Wheelock College in Boston from 1983 to 1991. In the period between the two college presidencies, he was president of the American Student Assistance Corp. in Boston.
He holds three degrees from Harvard University, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and earned the faculty prize for distinguished doctoral study. Cheever currently is an independent trustee for several families and a foundation. He is a bass in Down East Singers.
The Down East Singers board includes both singers and community members. Herbert Peters is vice president; Pat Niedzielski is secretary; and Homer Schoen is treasurer. Other board members are Debbie Brady, Merrilee Brown, Chris Hardy, Jeanne Klainer and Renny Stackpole. Anthony Antolini is artistic director.
