Carolyn M. Smallwood
Thomaston — Carolyn M. Littlehale Smallwood, 79, of Thomaston died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport.
Born in Bremen, July 1, 1934, she was the daughter of William Clayton, and Jennie Creamer Littlehale. She attended area schools, and was a member of the class of 1953 at Warren High School.
She married Craig Bryce Smallwood June 23, 1962 in Thomaston.
Carolyn was a member of the Midcoast Shrine Ladies Club and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
She enjoyed summers out at her cottage in Washington with family and friends. She also loved to venture out and tackled her own home improvement projects. She was a lady of determination that never gave up on anything she set her mind to, including a new dining room. She loved Bingo, cards, sewing and gardening.
Carolyn enjoyed traveling. She made frequent trips to Florida and California to visit her children, as well as trips to Missouri, Bermuda, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Niagara Falls, Canada and cruises to various islands. Carolyn enjoyed traveling to Germany with her mother-in-law, Genevieve McGibney.
Carolyn is survived by her loving husband Craig Bryce Smallwood; sons, Ronald Makie and his wife Marion of Owls Head, Craig B. Smallwood II of Altamonte Spring, Fla.; daughters, Debra Roberts of Winter Springs, Fla., Kathy Stenger and her husband Tim of Cocoa, Fla.; brothers Robert Littlehale and his wife Barbara Jean of Warren, Gene Littlehale all of Warren; grandchildren, Travis Makie, Todd Makie and his wife Sara, Jamie Hall and his wife Kelly, Sam Hall and his wife Fletcher, Heather Olsen and her husband Jeff, and Amanda Mathews and her husband Jeff; great-grandchildren, Kara, Alex, Erin, Ryan, Casey, Sophie, Sydney, Jackie, Charley, Karissa, Madison, Olivia, Julia, Kahlan and expected Baby Mathews. She was predeceased by her sister, Grace, and son-in-law, Harry Roberts. She will be missed by close friends Shirley Hooper, Mae Miller and Ruth Emery, along with several of her Bingo and card friends.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, Sept. 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland, where a funeral service will be held Thursday, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Wayne Sawyer will officiate. Interment will follow in Achorn Cemetery, Old County Road, Rockland.
