Camden's free 4th concert, fireworks
Camden — For the third consecutive year, Bay Chamber Concerts will present a free concert as part of Camden’s Festival of Independence. The festivities begin Wednesday, July 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the downtown Harbor Park. This celebration is the culmination of the day’s activities offered as a collaboration between Bay Chamber, the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce and Camden Rotary.
Building on the success of the past two years, for 2012, Bay Chamber has contracted Brooklyn’s best party band, The Engagements. The Engagements perform everything from classic funk and soul covers to 1980s favorites. Picnics on the lawn, dancing in the streets and the performance will be immediately followed by the town's fireworks display over the harbor.
The Engagements' faithful renditions of classic pop and rock songs are mined by each member of this nine-piece band whose members have played with acts such as the "Rock Of Ages" musical, Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings, Steely Dan, Jane Monheit, Norah Jones, Rod Stewart, Bernie Worrell, Dr. Lonnie Smith, the Duke Ellington Orchestra, French Kicks, The Pointer Sisters, Whitney Houston and The Isley Brothers.
The concert will take rain or shine. The rain location is the Camden Opera House, still at 7:30 p.m. The fireworks are made possible by the fundraising efforts of the Chamber of Commerce. Weekend-long activities are planned as well as hot dogs and other delicious foods for sale in the park. For a full schedule of activities, visit mainedreamvacation.com.
