Camden Scouts explore Camp Bomazeen
The Cub Scouts of Pack 200 wrapped up their summer activities program with a weekend camp out at Camp Bomazeen on Great Pond in Belgrade. In addition to spending ample time swimming, kayaking, and hiking, Scouts worked on earning merit badges.
The boys practiced knot tying, flag folding and worked on the Webelos science activity badge by diving into a lesson in water and air pressure.
While wearing a homemade diving bell helmet, the Scouts were able to walk on the bottom of the lake. The helmet, constructed from a plastic 5-gallon bucket and Plexiglass, was complete with an air hose and pump to provide a constant air supply. With an adult holding the helmet, in the shallow areas of the lake edge, scouts could investigate the underwater world for several minutes.
The Camden Area Cub Scouts Pack 200 is chartered by The First Congregational Church of Camden. This local pack serves as an enrichment program for boys in first through fifth grade from Camden, Lincolnville, and the Five Town communities.
