Camden Hills girls defeat Oceanside, other area teams fall

Several Midcoast high school boys and girls tennis teams were in action on Thursday, May 15 — some against each other — which saw the majority of area squads experience defeat.

The Camden Hills girls were the lone area team to prevail Thursday with a 3-2 victory over Oceanside

Both the Medomak Valley boys and girls also lost, as did the Belfast boys (results for the Belfast girls match with Morse of Bath was unavailable).

Girls tennis

Camden Hills 3, Oceanside 2

At Rockport May 15, the Windjammers bested the Mariners in a tightly-contested affair.

The individual results, with Oceanside players listed first, were: In singles, Lily Butler lost to Abby Blakeley, 0-6, 0-6; Alayna Joyce lost to Katie Vannorsdall, 3-6, 0-6; and Becca Boggs beat Sophia Landry, 6-3, 6-1.

In doubles, Mary Allen and Clara Feltus beat Eliza Carter and Emily Haining, 7-5, 6-3; and Meghan McGonagle and Emily Prothero lost to Lila Ohland and Serene Landry, 5-7, 6-4, 1-6.

In the Maine Principals' Association Heal Point Standings for Eastern Class B, Camden Hills (6-1, 55.9028 points) is second, while Oceanside (5-3, 31.5972 points) is sixth. Waterville (8-0, 72.9167 points) is first in the 17-team region. The top 12 teams qualify for the playoffs. The match between Camden Hills and Oceanside has yet to be reported to the Heal Point site.

Winslow 4, Medomak Valley 1

At Waldoboro May 15, the Black Raiders netted a win over the host Panthers.

The individual results, with Medomak Valley players listed first, were: In singles, Haley Many lost to Brennah O'Connell, 4-6, 0-6; Maggie Ryan beat Kalianna Carpenter, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2; and Medomak Valley forfeited in third singles.

In doubles, Morgan Black and Stacy Wadsworth lost to Lillie Pellerin and Cailyn Hiller, 1-6, 1-6; and Emily Wotton and Nashelle Monroy lost to Sally Greenlaw and Jacie Cain, 0-6, 3-6.

In the Maine Principals' Association Heal Point Standings for Eastern Class B, Medomak Valley (1-7, 0.8333 points) is 16th, while Waterville (8-0, 72.9167 points) is first in the 17-team region. The top 12 teams qualify for the playoffs.

Morse 3, Belfast 2

At Belfast May 15, the Lions fell to the visiting Shipbuilders in a tightly contested match.

Individual results, with Belfast players listed first, were: In singles, Mariah Hurd beat Arielle Leeman, 8-6; Ashley Keene lost to Courtney Mitchell, 4-8; and Amalia Kockerols lost to Sarah Young, 4-8.

In doubles, Mackenzie Moore and Catey McGinn lost to Meaghan Harper and Lynn Swanson, 3-8; and Madison Pickering and Hannah Green beat Pearl Wilson and Michaela Wright, 8-5.

At Bath May 15, the Shipbuilders tamed the visiting Lions and prevailed in convincing fashion.

The individual results, with Belfast players listed first, were: In singles, David Flood lost to Thomas Jarmusz, 2-6, 1-6; Logan Mitchell lost to Stephen Tapia, 2-6, 0-6; and Asa Lewis lost to Matthew Jarmusz, 0-6, 0-6.

In doubles, Peter Brunette and Ben Flood lost to Justin Trottier and Lucas Brown, 3-6, 1-6; and Eduardo DeSaPinto and an unnamed Belfast partner lost to Oskar Matero and Wade Daigle, 6-5, 1-6, 0-6.
