Camden Hills bleacher, press box project well under way
Rockport — The new bleachers and press box at Camden Hills Regional High School are quickly taking shape and are on track for completion for the start of the fall sports regular season.
"This is coming together very smoothly," said CHRHS Athletic Director Steve Alex this week. "Finally our fans can come and have a quality place to sit and watch a game."
Alex said through community support from local carpenters and tradesman the press box has gone up rather quickly, but it will take a few more days and many hands to make it safe to use.
"We had great support during the work days, but we could still use more," he said. "Paul McDonald has been great, he comes over and volunteers his time, he has actually been here all day working on it by himself."
When completed, the 650-seat bleacher system will allow for a raised view of Don Palmer Field during football, soccer and lacrosse games, The press box will allow for coaches and media to have have birds-eye view of the action on the field.
The press box and bleachers were included on the original site plan for the high school grounds, but were not constructed at the same time as the athletic fields due to budget constraints. Because the bleachers and press box were part of the original plans, no further Planning Board action was required.
