Camden — Camden Rotary Club has presented town Harbormaster Steven Pixley with a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellowship in recognition of outstanding community service.

Pixley captained the schooners Grace Bailey and Mercantile for seven years before becoming Camden Harbormaster in 2001.

“We know him as being the ‘Mayor of Camden Harbor’ over the summer,” said Rotarian Jim Bowditch. “He understands that Camden Harbor is one of the front doors of Camden, and he is there to welcome all comers.”

Pixley was also recognized for providing work experience opportunities in his office for young people, serving as master of ceremonies at Camden Windjammer Festival and working on the ski patrol at Camden Snow Bowl, in addition to keeping things ship-shape at the harbor during the winter.

The fellowship is named after Rotary Founder Paul Harris and represents a contribution by the Camden Rotary Club in Pixley’s name to the Rotary Foundation. The foundation funds worldwide service programs.
