Calvin L. Carney
South China — Calvin L. Carney, 96, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta after several episodes of ill health in the last three years.
He was born in Cumberland, July 23, 1917, a son of the late Francis J. and Edith M. (Reed) Carney.
He married Marjorie Johnston from Washington on Feb. 3, 1940.
Calvin was a deacon at the South Liberty Baptist Church and helped them to build one of the outside cabins and other projects. Last year he received his 60-year pin from the Augusta Masonic Lodge.
He was predeceased by brothers Couver, William and Charles Carney and sisters Vera Carney Dyer and Marie Carney Potrepka.
Calvin is survived by Marjorie, his wife of 73 years; daughter Jean and her husband David Gallant; brother Adelbert Carney and his wife Jacqueline, all.of South China and sister Jennie (Carney) Sharpe of Dover-Foxcroft; grandchildren, Mary Hunt of Kennebunk, Patricia and her husband Chris Desmarais of Springvale, Michael Hunt and his wife Terri of Altus, Okla., Barbara Chadbourne and her partner Jon Jellerson of Springvale, and Susan and her husband Norman Gilbert of Hallowell; great-grandchildren Calvin Beneck, Andrew Shaw and his wife Cintrece, Rebecca and her husband Brendon, Michaela Hunt, Jessica Chadbourne, Zachary Chadbourne, Brittany Susee, and Kelli Susee; and three great-great-grandchildren Connor Shaw, Jailynn and Carter Susee; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Relatives and friends may visit Tuesday, Aug. 27, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home, 983 Ridge Road (Route 32) in Windsor, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 28, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Pierpont Cemetery in Washington.
