Aug 19, 2014

Damariscotta — River Arts is inviting artists to submit work for the upcoming “Water/Reflection” exhibition.  All work is due by 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30. The opening reception is scheduled for Friday, Sept 5, from 5 to 7 p.m.; the exhibition will hang until Oct. 2 in the Route 1 gallery.

All media, styles and subjects are welcome around the themes of water in any of its forms, from ice cubes to tears, and reflective surfaces. All work entered must be for sale. Wall-hung work size maximum is 60 inches in height, 42 inches in width; for safety reasons Plexiglas or other non-glass option should be used for work over 34 inches, excluding pastels. Artists may submit up to three works. Entry forms are available online and at River Arts.

Juror for the exhibition will be local artist Jacques Vesery. Vesery has lectured on design and concepts within his work in France, Italy, England, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and 28 U.S. states at such locations as Journees Mondiales du Tournage D'art Sur Bois Congres, Loughborough University, Anderson Ranch, `Aha Hana Lima- Hawaii and Haystack Mt. School. He has been included in more than 20 publications and has work in "100 Artists of New England," released in 2011. Other books include “Scratching the Surface,” “Wood Art Today,” “Nature Transformed” and “New Masters of Woodturning.” Vesery has curated several exhibitions including 2012’s “Playing Well with Others: Collaboration in Wood” at River Arts.

River Arts holds 10 themed, open, juried exhibitions per year, with some of Maine’s most prominent art community members as jurors. More than 600 different Maine artists have exhibited in these shows. The gallery program creates opportunity for artists to have their work selected, participate in the gallery process and sell their work. More than 7,000 people visited the gallery and participated in events and workshops last year.

River Arts is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, call 563-1507 or visit riverartsme.org.
