Our pet pick of the week is Buddy. This friendly wonder dog is looking for a fun-loving-home to call his own. He is a 3-year old neutered male American bulldog and beagle mix. Aptly named, Buddy is very loyal to his people and likes to be with them whenever he can. He loves to romp and play, as well as curl up by your feet for a little snooze.

Buddy can be a bit protective of his toys, so we recommend he be the only pet in the family and no young children. He does like some other dogs, but prefers to pick his own canine friends. If you're looking for an energetic, playful new best bud, stop in and meet Buddy to learn more. He could be just what you're looking for.

Join us at the shelter Saturday, May 6, from 1 to 3 p.m. as PMHS, in collaboration with the Coastal Children's Museum, celebrates National Be Kind To Animals Week with pet-themed kids' games, crafts and other fun activities. Created more than 100 years ago by American Humane, Be Kind to Animals Week celebrates our love for animals and the importance of compassion towards animals. This event is free -- just a celebration of kids, pets, and kindness! We hope to see you there. For more information, contact Anna at 594-2200 or events@hskcme.org.

And join us Sunday, May 21, along with Marie Spaulding Art, and the Loyal Biscuit Co. to capture your pet's beauty with a pet portrait. Marie will help you paint a portrait of your pet based on a photo of your choosing. This event is limited to 15. The cost is $60 per person (all supplies included), with a portion being donated back to PMHS! To reserve your spot today, visit the direct link at http://mariespauldingart.com/product/channel-your-inner-artist-pet-portraits-fundraiser-521/

Wish list: Wet dog and cat food, cat and dog treats, hand soap, 13-gallong garbage bags, laundry detergent, 6-inch paper plates, copy paper, file folders. Gift certificates to Wal-Mart, Staples, Amazon and other local businesses are also a great help. Thanks for your support.

Henderson would love a home of his own, as would many other cats at the shelter. (Courtesy of: Pope Memorial Humane Society of Knox County)
