Bridging Weskeag, St. George rivers talk Jan. 22

Jan 11, 2014

South Thomaston — Friends of the Weskeag will sponsor a public informational meeting and discussion on Bridging Two Rivers Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 6:30 p.m.at South Thomaston Town Office, 125 Spruce Head Road.

The Weskeag River and Marsh provide a vibrant thriving home to many birds and other wildlife while also ensuring clean water drains into the bay. Within less than a mile is the outflow of the St. George River. Within that short distance these two systems interact, which is special to this area of the Midcoast.

For the past six years, Georges River Land Trust, georgesriver.org, has been working with partners (nonprofits, citizen groups such as Friends of the Weskeag, and residents) to link these two systems through conservation.

Annette Naegel, GRLT Conservation Program Manager, will speak about the land trust's efforts and successes to Bridge the Two Rivers, and discuss ways that local citizens can make a difference. For more information, contact Vivian Newman at 691-2120, newviv@roadrunner.com.
