“Late Summer” is an acrylic on panel by Mary Bourke of Lincolnville.

Portland — Midcoast artist Mary Bourke will open a show titled “A Life Imagined” Thursday, Oct. 3, with a 5 to 7 p.m. reception at Greenhut Galleries

146 Middle St. The show, which may be seen online beginning Tuesday, Oct. 1, will run through Oct. 26.

“A Life Imagined,” Bourke’s ninth solo show at the gallery, captures the essence of everyday life in her signature style via observations of the ordinary rendered with lively color, light and narrative.

"My own Maine story is one of places I have been and places where I long to be … We tell our stories of a past and perhaps what is most true is a little closer to our dreams and hopes and times imagined than to the mere sum of the moments we have actually lived," she said of this work.

Bourke received her bachelor of arts degree from Boston College. Her work will be featured on the cover of the 2013 L.L. Bean Holiday Catalog and has appeared in Down East Magazine, Maine Sunday Telegram, the Brunswick Summer Music Festival playbill and Maine Boats and Harbors Magazine. It also is in numerous collections.
